Fifth Annual Memorial Golf Classic for Meningitis Awareness & Prevention

The Mike Hodges Memorial Fund organization will host the 5th Annual Golf Classic for Meningitis Awareness and Prevention.

This year's golf classic will once again be hosted at the Brambleton Regional Park Golf Course on Ryan Road in Ashburn, VA.
The support and courtesies provided by Dale Riggs, his management and staff at this great venue is excellent and is a major reason for hosting our golf outing here again this year. This will be the third year that the Mike Hodges Memorial Fund has selected this golf course for our golf outing for Meningitis Awareness.

We are improving our online registration facility to make it easier to register a foursome in one transaction. We are also offering a discount to any and all foursomes who are fully registered and paid before April 20th.

One of our goal this year is to increase the number of youth foursomes, including the four young men who participated last year. We would also like to see one or more women's foursomes this year and every year hence.

Registration and team alignment will start at 7:00am with the tee times starting at 8:30am.

The MHMFund is soliciting support and donations of goods and in kind services for our golf classic.  Hole sponsors, gallery  supporters, items for the door prize drawings, the beverage cart, and heavy hors d'œuvres for the post game award reception, among other items.  Prizes for longest drive, closest to the hole, and other tournament related functions are also solicited.

Business sponsors will have their corporate logos and other corporate information displayed on the course itself, at the awards presentations, and on our web site section for sponsors.

Fourth Annual Memorial Golf Classic

On Saturday, May 19th, we will once again come together to host a golf outing that will bring contributions for the continuing fight against Meningococcal Disease ( Meningitis).

We have decided to move the golf classic back to the the spring and to Saturday. This move will, we hope encourage more folks to come out and support our efforts and play a round of golf on an exceptionally beautiful golf course. This year we will tee off at 8:30am, a brunch will be included for all participants and snacks will also be provided. We will have beverage service on the course as well. The Awards presentation will immediately follow the last team to complete the course.

The golf classic will once again be held at the Brambleton Regional Park Golf Course located at 42180 Ryan Road, Ashburn, Virginia 20148-6920. We were so pleased with the support and attention to our needs by Dale Riggs and his course management team, that we have decided to hold the next golf outing there as well.

This year we want to include a youth contingent to the golf outing. We are approaching various golf schools as well as public schools to offer an invitation to the young golfers. After all a large portion of our focus for Meningococcal Disease prevention directly affects young people. More on this aspect of the golf classic will be coming in the next few weeks.

Third Annual Memorial Golf Classic

The 3rd Annual Mike Hodges Memorial Golf Classic on October 7, 2011. We had a very good turnout, and the day could not have been more perfect for a round of golf. The Brambleton course was absolutely beautiful and the wild critters who happened by were unperturbed by Richard Farmer's golf shorts.

We were able to raise funds that were an improvement over our contribution to the National Meningitis Association this year over last. The Mike Hodges Memorial Fund's contribution this year to the NMA will be $3,860 dollars. Many thanks to all of you wonderful people who opened your hearts and contributed so generously.

We welcomed a new set of business/corporation sponsors this year and we are most grateful for your participation, support and contributions. A listing of all of our sponsors, both corporate as well as personal are presented under the Sponsor's section.

Our heartfelt thanks for the fantastic job done by the folks at the Brambleton Regional Golf Course. Dale Riggs and his crew went above and beyond to ensure that we had a great day, a terrific round of golf and an extremely pleasant locale for our awards ceremony

This year's Mike Hodges Memorial Trophy awarded to the individual who best met Mike's values, sportsmanship and humor, went to Chris Stakely from Gainesville, Florida.

Our team champions had to be determined by the Course Official using a specific hold score to break the tie. So the Richard Farmer Team edged out the Monty Warsing Team based on the tie breaker score from one hole. Congratulations to both teams for their excellent team play.

Thank you all, for playing, for the gallery support, and for the financial support to our efforts to bring Awareness, Education and Prevention of Meningiccal Disease to people across the area and the country.

Remember, Mike was 44 when he died of Meningitis, Yewri Guillen-Washington Nationals was onlyh 18, and we lost another young man just a couple of weeks ago who was attending graduate school at the George Washington University. Meningitis is still killing and maiming people from all walks of life. We will continue to honor Mike and all those who have been attacked by this disease through the facilities of this annual golf classic.

We hope you will all continue to support our efforts.

Additional Activities

The Fund's board of directors are considering some additional activities this year to both expand our exposure to the Northern Virginia community and provide additional fundraising opportunities. Our fundraising will benefit our program development, for increasing the awareness, providing educational opportunities and assisting in the prevention of the meningitis diseases. The organization is developing programs to conduct educational presentations on meningitis to schools, parents and medical personnel.
